FAQ

Membership, payment, pooled orders, and pickup

Plain-language answers about how Pawlo works without publishing supplier-cost details or unapproved purchase terms.

Membership

Who is Pawlo for?
Pawlo is for independent pet professionals in the Calgary area, including groomers, dog walkers, trainers, pet sitters, in-home boarders, and other small pet-service businesses that use supplies in their work.
Is membership free?
Yes. Membership is free at launch. Pawlo is gated by business verification, not by a membership fee.
How is a business verified?
Pawlo verifies that the principal phone has passed SMS verification and that the business has an active public presence, such as a website, social profile, or business listing that matches the application and shows a Calgary-area service area.
Why might an application remain pending?
An application can remain pending while staff confirm the business verification details or while Pawlo is still operating in a waitlist-only posture before supplier approval gates are lifted. Pending status does not mean you were charged or enrolled in another program.

Products and pricing

What products are available?
Pawlo focuses on curated, non-prescription operating supplies for pet-service businesses, such as grooming products, training treats, waste bags, cleaning supplies, and other everyday essentials. Product selection can vary by buying cycle.
What does “below-retail pricing” mean?
It means approved members can access prices below ordinary retail pricing on eligible items. Pawlo does not publish a fixed savings percentage, and the exact member price is shown before you commit.
Why are some products sold only by the case?
Some items are offered only in the supplier’s sellable case units. In those cases, Pawlo presents the case as the member order unit so the order matches how that product must be bought for the pooled supplier order.
Can Pawlo substitute another product?
No, not without your explicit approval. Pawlo does not swap you into a different product or higher-priced option automatically.
Are supplier promotions passed through automatically?
No. Your committed member price is fixed to the offer you accepted for that buying cycle. A later supplier promotion does not automatically change an already committed price.

Shared order and progress

How does the pooled order work?
Pawlo combines many small committed member orders into one rolling community order. Members commit only the quantities their own businesses need, and Pawlo places the supplier order only after the shared threshold is reached and the funded batch still qualifies.
What starts the buying cycle?
The buying cycle starts when the first valid member commitment enters the active rolling community order.
How long can aggregation take?
Aggregation can run for up to 14 days after the first valid commitment in that buying cycle.
What does the progress percentage mean?
The progress percentage shows how much freight-eligible supplier cost from eligible committed items has been accumulated toward the snapshotted supplier freight threshold for that cycle. Pawlo shows the percentage, not the underlying supplier-cost dollars or threshold amount.
Why is progress a percentage rather than a dollar total?
Pawlo uses a percentage so members can see cycle progress without publishing supplier-cost dollars or the freight-threshold amount. Member-facing totals and supplier-threshold calculations are not the same number.
What happens if the pooled supplier threshold is not reached?
If the shared threshold is not reached, the pooled supplier order does not go ahead for that cycle, and members are not charged during aggregation.

Payment

Am I charged when I commit?
No. Commitment records your order and payment choice, but no charge happens while the order is still aggregating.
What happens to my card at commitment?
If you choose card payment, Pawlo saves and authenticates your payment method through Stripe with explicit off-session consent. That does not place a 14-day hold on your card.
When is my card authorized and charged?
After the pooled threshold is reached, staff open a 48-hour funding window. Saved cards are authorized during that window, and capture, including the 2.4% Stripe processing fee shown before you commit, happens after the funded batch and the staged supplier cart reconcile.
How does e-Transfer work?
If you choose Interac e-Transfer, you are still only committing during aggregation. Once funding opens, Pawlo gives you payment instructions and treats the order as funded only after the transfer is received and verified. Interac e-Transfer has no added processing fee.
What happens if payment fails?
Pawlo gives members a 48-hour recovery window after funding opens. If a payment is not successfully funded within that window, that commitment is released and does not proceed into the supplier submission.
What happens if a supplier price rises or an item becomes unavailable?
Pawlo does not move you into a substitute or higher-priced item without your explicit approval. If an item cannot proceed, the remaining funded pooled order can still go ahead only if it still qualifies after that change.
How do refunds work?
Exact refund terms are still being finalized before transactional ordering launches. Today’s commitment is narrower: do not assume processing fees are refundable, and any refund or release will follow the purchase terms shown when ordering opens.

Fulfillment and pickup

Does Pawlo ship or deliver?
No. Pawlo uses Click N Collect locally. It does not promise individual shipping, home delivery, or supplier drop-shipping.
When will I know my order is ready?
Pawlo will send transactional updates when your funded items have been received and prepared for local pickup.
How long do I have to pick up?
You have 14 days to pick up a ready order, and Pawlo will send reminders during that pickup window.
What happens if I cannot pick up on time?
Contact Pawlo as soon as possible. Late pickup is handled manually, and Pawlo does not publish an automatic forfeiture, restock, refund, or credit rule here.
Can part of my order proceed if another item cannot?
Yes, but only if the remaining funded pooled order still qualifies after the unavailable or removed item is taken out.

Communications and support

Which messages are transactional?
Transactional messages include verification steps, application status updates, commitment and funding instructions, payment recovery notices, and pickup-ready reminders that are needed to run your Pawlo account or order.
Does receiving order SMS or email subscribe me to marketing?
No. Transactional SMS and email for your application, order, payment, or pickup do not subscribe you to marketing.
How do I get help with a commitment, payment, or pickup?
Email hello@pawlo.app for help with a commitment, payment question, or pickup issue, and include enough detail for Pawlo to find the right application or order.
